Memorial Day weekend

I’m hoping for a fairly calm weekend. Our bike ride on the Baldwin to Jacksonville Rail Trail yesterday seems to have worn me out a bit! It’s finally payday, but Duffy has my ID and check cards, so no early shopping to beat the crowd! Picking up Miss Bee at 1130, then we’ll go pick up the necessaries – like coffee, cat food, and eggs. Sunday we plan to go to the beach at Mayport with the kids. Monday, I want to make my yearly visit to the National Cemetery at Jacksonville. It tends to storm that day. Fitting, somehow…

Take some time to remember and be grateful.

Old Guard Soldiers honored America's heroes during Flags In, May 23. More than 1200 Soldiers placed flags at every gravestone and columbarium niche within the cemetery.

Be safe, watch out for the other guy, and thanks for stopping by!

I don’t even know what the weather is supposed to do that day! Dylan’s kindergarten “graduation” was this morning.

You know, it REALLY pisses me off about the way the kids aren’t allowed to say Christian or Jewish holidays associated with specific months, for example, we have ‘holidays’ in December. We celebrate New Years in January. WHAT? We give valentines to our friends in February. We look for leprechauns in March and we search for Robin eggs in the spring. REALLY, people?

Daughter noticed it this time, too. I told her it’s only going to get worse next year with the common core curriculum in which our culture will be entirely stamped out.

The only thing we can do is teach history, science, and values at home. Or take ’em out of school completely.

    1. At least for the next year, Kaylee will be going to St. Mark’s…that’s kindergarten taken care of, anyway. And I will home-school her if it becomes too much for our budget. I won’t have her in Government schools if there’s any way I can keep it from happening. Ever.

She’s getting her first visit to the National Cemetery on Sunday morning, before we head for Mayport. Didn’t want to fight the Memorial Day service mess on Monday, but the kids wanted to go, so this is how it worked out. Duffy has Monday off, which is unusual, then works the opening shift (3-11am) for Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. Not his favorite shift or assignment, that’s for sure!
